Description:
This is a 4-part course to help learners familiarize themselves with accounting as a career option. Part 1 explores the accounting principles and equations. Lessons explore the steps of the accounting cycle and provide examples of preparing ledger accounts. Accounting practices for trading businesses vs. service businesses' is also covered.
By the end of this course, you will have done the following:
Clients should be comfortable working with level 2 & 3 OALCF tasks. These courses take approximately 90 days to complete. Please note that there are small references to American information. We encourage learners to research comparable to Canadian information. We do not offer credits for these courses.
With Independent Study courses, there are no scheduled classes. Learners can log in to the online system any time that is convenient for them, to watch a video, take a test or read a chapter. Help and guidance are available to the learner from their online mentor. The online mentor works with the learner to choose the courses the learner needs to help them reach their goals. The mentor follows the learner's progress and will be ready to advise the learner on every step along the way.

This course is designed for learners preparing for various college and apprenticeship programs and/or the workplace who wish to consolidate their basic mathematical skills and improve their problem-solving techniques. It builds on the algebraic skills mastered in previous mathematics courses, developing algebraic and trigonometric strategies that will provide the means to arrive at solutions in a structured, dependable way. Units of study include number sense and algebra; measurement and geometry; proportional reasoning; analytic geometry; relations and functions; trigonometric functions; statistics and probability; and personal finance.
PREREQUISITE: Numeracy score minimum 300 or ACE Core Mathematics
COURSE LENGTH: 100 hours. Learners have a maximum of 22 weeks to complete the course but may complete more quickly if they are able to do so.

Three major themes of biology are introduced: organization, homeostasis and interconnectedness. Emphasis is on the practical application of these concepts. The content of the course reflects the needs of many adult learners entering postsecondary college programs in health and environmental sciences.
PREREQUISITE: Numeracy score minimum 250 or ACE Core Mathematics AND Reading score minimum 250

ACE Biology University Preparation (UStream Biology)
ACE Distance - Academic and Career Entrance
Description:
This course provides students with the opportunity for in-depth study of the concepts and processes that occur in biological systems. Students will study the theory (and conduct investigations) in the areas of biochemistry, metabolic processes, molecular genetics, homeostasis and population dynamics. Emphasis will be placed on the achievement of detailed knowledge and refinement of (communication) skills needed for further study in various branches of the life sciences and related fields.
Note: This course was developed using the course description from the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum policy document and has been evaluated as equivalent to the comparable OSSD course SBI4U.
Course Length: 120 hours

The material covered includes the study of arithmetic and geometric sequences and series; simple and compound interest; annuities; exponential growth; retail mathematics; data analysis - collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; self- study and the application of learned skills to numerous problems; developing learner skills in handling business mathematical problems.

ACE Chemistry University Preparation (UStream Chemistry)
ACE Distance - Academic and Career Entrance
Description:
This course enables students to deepen their understanding of chemistry through the study of organic chemistry, the structure and properties of matter, energy changes and rates or reaction, equilibrium in chemical systems and electrochemistry. Students will further develop their problem-solving and investigation skills as they investigate chemical processes, and will refine their ability to communicate scientific information. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of chemistry in everyday life and on evaluating the impact of chemical technology on the environment.
Note: This course was developed using the course description from the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum policy document and has been evaluated as equivalent to the comparable OSSD course SCH4U.
